Maurice Emtage
Owner and Master Saddler
Colne Saddlery was started by Maurice and his father over 45 years ago. Maurice
has a wealth of horse experience and knowledge, as he has been involved in the
industry for a very long time. His personal horse riding achievements were
achieved in his youth as he show jumped to Grade A, and enjoyed hunting and
blood hounding. Maurice is a master saddler and a QSF. He has been on the
executive committee for many years and was the president in 2002/2003. Maurice
has been involved in the formation of the saddle fitting course and is a regular
assessor. Maurice is also a liveryman on the worshipful company of saddlers.
Where ever possible he will support English made saddlery as he is a great
believer in looking after the future of our trade in this country.
Gemma Biddlecombe
Company Director
Gemma has grown up with Colne Saddlery, (literally) as she is Maurice's daughter.
Gemma is involved in all aspects of the company and over sees the purchasing of
new and existing products. She has a BSc in Anatomical Science, graduated from
Bristol University, and then a post graduate diploma in animal manipulation from
the Mctimoney college of Chiropractic's. She also worked for 5 years as a
racing secretary for National Hunt trainer Nigel Twiston Davies, and now runs
the office admin for the company. Gemma has grown up with horses, and has
evented up to intermediate level, and ridden point to pointing.
Sarah Glynn
Shop Manager
Sarah is the manager of Colne Saddlery, and not only does she oversee the running
of the shop but also takes part in the organising and running of the trade
stand. Sarah is a fully qualified riding instructor, who has previously owned a
riding school for over 20 years, where she taught children and adults of all
levels. Sarah is also hugely involved in the world of showing and has competed
at county level for 25 years, with numerous wins including Horse of the Year
Show, and The Royal International. Sarah specialises in show cobs and coloureds
and has produced and sold countless horses from happy hackers to high level
competition horses.
Lois Smith
SMS Qualified Saddler and Qualified Saddle Fitter
Lois started saddlery training at Capel Manor College (2011-13) and joined Colne as a trainee bench saddler in 2014. She gained her Qualified Saddler status in 2015 and has had a number of successes at The Society of Master Saddlers and BETA competitions for items she has made.
Under the guidance of Maurice and Charlotte, Lois qualified as a Saddle Fitter in 2019. Lois most enjoys building a relationship with her clients and their horses and supporting their journey.
Lois has a BSc (Hons) degree in Equine Sport Science from Hartpury and has worked in a variety of equine establishments over the years as well as owning her own horses.
Katie Saddington
Marketing and Website Development Manager
Katie joined Colne Saddlery in 2009. Her main role at Colne Saddlery is to
maintain the website aswell as organising monthly events.. Katie also runs our
social media platforms. Katie completed her degree in Equine Sports Science at
Hartpury College in 2009. Katie is also a fully, insured and qualified Equine
Physiotherapist registered with the IAAT, and qualified from the College of
Animal Physiotherapist in 2011. Katie has previously owned her own horses and
thoroughly enjoys competing in all disciplines.
Zane Etherington
Appointments Co-Ordinator
Zane's role at Colne Saddlery is to organise the saddle fitting diaries for
both Maurice and Charlotte. Zane also manages the saddle stock that changes on a
daily basis. Outside of Colne, Zane also teaches and enjoys competing and fun
rides with her lovely cleeveland cross.
Abigail Houghton
Shop Assistant Manager
Abi is our in store assistant manager, and has worked within the Equestrian
retail industry for many years and has fantastic product knowledge. Abi has
ridden since a small child and now owns two horses which she enjoys competing
across many disciplines. In her spare time Abi enjoys course walking with her
dogs.
Ellie Duggan
Saddler & SMS Qualified Saddle Fitter
Ellie is one of our Master Saddlers. She trained and completed her Millennium
Saddler Apprenticeship Scheme at Newmarket. During her apprenticeship Ellie won
'best apprenticeship piece', as well as the 'Les Coker award for the
best Millennium apprenticeship piece'. Whilst completing her apprenticeship
Ellie gained experience as a saddle fitter with Express Equine. Ellie now works
at our in store traditional leather workshop and is a fully qualified SMS Saddle
Fitter. Originally from Norfolk and from an RAF family Ellie loves the coast, in
her spare time she enjoys keeping fit with Kick Boxing, horse riding and water
sports.
Olivia Atkins
Marketing & Social Media Manager
Olivia graduated from Hartpury in 2018 with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Sport Science and then followed her passion to work in the Showjumping sector, competing and grooming at shows all throughout Europe. Olivia then moved her life to the Cotswolds where she gained her coaching qualifications, before joining Colne Saddlery to run the social media platforms, assisting in marketing and website management.
In her spare time Olivia enjoys producing her ex - race horse as well as taking her vintage Mobile bar 'The Tipsy Trotter' to events.
